Solar energy is energy that is produced by the sun – this can be generated through a number of ways to make it into a usable source of energy for your home – electricity and heat.
The most common and popular types of solar technology are below:
Solar Photovoltaic Panels (PV)
These panels are placed on top of a building which uses solar energy to generate electricity.
The semiconductors in PV panels are made from silicon, making it a good substance to convert the sun into electricity.
Solar Thermal Panels
These type of panels use the sun’s energy to produce hot water. By the use of pipes, it pumps water around the system which in turn produces the hot water from the solar energy and is quickly returned to your water tank.
Below are the less common, but still do an amazing job from solar energy.
These fibres use light to produce energy – these panels use a solar tape which is produced from titanium dioxide which converts the light into electricity.
This technology uses the sun to produce heat. 3 layers of salt are used to prevent convention, so energy can be used in the form of heat. It is commonly used to heat water and/or the household.
